Why? What? and How?

Google Analytics collects data so that website owners can understand what website visitors do on a website, where they come from, and how useful they find the content and offerings on the site.  Some consider that data collection intrusive.  In fact some countries have made Google Analytics illegal, such as Italy, France, Denmark, and Austria.  Privacy laws are in place in many countries and more laws are on the way.  To address these concerns, and to modernize it's reporting tools, Google decided to replace it's reporting tools.  This takes place on July 1st, 2023.

Google engineers themselves acknowledge that their DO-IT-FOR-YOU process is far from perfect, and they STRONGLY recommend that you do a MANUAL MIGRATION

BTW, we have a 16 page guide on how to UNDO Googles auto-migration.

What happens if I leave the migration to Google?

The impact of a the Google ‘do-it-for-you’ migration means your marketing decisions could be WRONG – because the data collection is not set up properly!

You run a real risk of wasting your marketing effort and money, if you can’t reliably answer questions like this:

  • Where is my website traffic coming from?
  • How is the SEO campaign performing?
  • How/Where are people joining my email list?
  • What’s driving inquiry/sales conversions?
  • Which blog posts get the most interaction?
  • Which social channels contribute to sales?
  • Which ads are converting better?
  • How much are my leads costing?

If you use Google Search Console, Tag Manager or any marketing platforms (such as Google Ads, Facebook Ads, QR Code marketing, email marketing with site tracking, marketing dashboard tools, etc) it is vitally important that GA4 is configured to match your businesses needs.
